Accelerating the Decarbonisation of Trucks Worldwide
Side Event by the Global MOU on Zero Emission-Medium & Heavy-Duty Vehicles

This session will focus on various initiatives and stakeholders that accelerate the decarbonization of trucks worldwide. Trucks are only a small part of the on-road fleet, yet they contribute disproportionately to fuel consumption and GHG emissions. They not only have a big impact on our climate, but also on communities, as they heavily pollute our air and cities. Therefore, we need to transform the way in which we move goods around the world and shift to Zero-Emission (ZE) technologies. Luckily, they are readily available today and are being deployed in various countries around the globe!

This session – organized by the Government of the Netherlands, the NGO’s CALSTART and Smart Freight Centre and the Kuhne Foundation – will showcase some of the international initiatives and stakeholders that accelerate this transition. The session will cover a Global Memorandum of Understanding setting high ambitions for countries that want to switch to ZE trucks and buses. Additionally, it will cover the development of ZE corridors around the globe, and specifically highlight corridors in Eastern Africa as part of the Green Freight Support East Africa Program. Furthermore, we will have deep-dive presentations from public and private stakeholders from Ghana, Chile and India who are already using ZE trucks today.
