Alioune Thiam has more than 25 years of professional experience in relation to urban transport, urban planning and territorial governance. He was Planning Director and, later, General Director of Dakar's transport authority, CETUD. In the latter role, he actively participated in the design and implementation of public policies towards improving sustainable urban mobility in the context of a Global South city. He most importantly started the fleet renewal programme of Dakar, a renowned initiative often used to present advantages of combining fleet renewal efforts with paratransit professionalisation objectives. In his role as General Director of CETUD, Alioune Thiam also participated in feasibility studies for the implementation of high-capacity public transport services in Dakar and in the programme that resulted in the construction of the city's cutting-edge vehicle technical control facilities. His most recent experiences have taken him to work with national and local authorities in Cameroon, Guinea, Ivory Coast and Mali.
