Daniel Bongardt

Daniel is Programme Director at GIZ Kenya and responsible for GIZ's regional e-mobility portfolio in Africa, including the LEAP project funded by the International Climate Initiative. From 2015 to 2026, he was based at GIZ headquarters in Bonn, most recently as Head of the global 'Infrastructure and Mobility' team. From 2011 to 2015, he was based in Beijing and led the urban mobility team in China. He is an expert in a wide range of topics (e.g. public transport, climate policy, electric mobility) and is passionate about understanding and reducing transport emissions. Before joining GIZ in 2009, he spent 11 years researching sustainable mobility at the German think tank Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
