Dirk Messner

President at the German Federal Environmental Agency

Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner, born in 1962, is President of the German Environment Agency since 2020. He is also Co-Director of the Centre for Global Cooperation Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen. He previously served as Director of the Institute for Environment and Human Security of United Nations University (UNU) and as Director of the German Development Institute. Prof. Messner co-chaired the German Advisory Council on Global Change and is co-coordinator of the global research consortium “The World in 2050”.
