Marlan Pillay

Programme Officer
UNFCCC
Since childhood I have always been fascinated with all things environmental. Years later, I obtained a Master’s degree in both Environmental Management and Health and Safety amongst other qualifications and certificates. I joined the UN Climate Change secretariat in 2010. My work at the UN has afforded me opportunity to visit places and meet many interesting people that are equally passionate about responding to climate change and carving out a pathway to a sustainable future together. I have served in capacities such as Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI) accreditation lead and technical assessor; as an officer overseeing these accreditation programmes; as an officer supporting developing countries to enhance their capacity to meet their reporting commitments under the Climate Change Convention and the Paris Agreement; and supporting the climate change intergovernmental negotiation process. My interests include international and regional cooperation; climate change mitigation; communication and outreach; tracking the progress of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs); and GHG baselines and monitoring.
